i like it! here's
my thoughts...
firstly, after waiting over ten
years for a stargate game, i am so glad it finally happened. the low
price almost feels like a reward for having to wait so long.
i don't play many games. i really just play to get inside the scifi
shows i like. so i've only played star trek games and stargate mods,
and some old console games. SGR puts me into the sgc way better than
any stargate mod i've played. the close quarters firefights are very
fun and make want to keep playing.
the gate room, control room, breifing room and some of the corridors
are very good, and for the most part, i feel like i'm there. it feels
big, but not rediculously big. but the rest of the map feels like a
cliche shooter map, like just any old dungeon maze.
my point is just that i bought the game because i'm a stargate fan, not
because i like playing games. instead of the map being modified for
better gameplay, i would much rather have it be accurate to the show.
from watching the show, we pretty much know the exact layout of levels
26, 27 and 28. my ideal map would be those three levels, with the
correct layout and size. spawn area would by in the elevator outside
the control room. i want to just walk down the corridor, turn into the
gateroom, and join twenty or so sg personel to help mow down 50 or 100
jaffa. of course we wouldn't be able to stop them all, so after the
gate shuts down, we head into the corridors to deal with the jaffa that
made it past the gateroom.
i'd also like a to have a goa'uld planet map that spawns in the gate
room. you head through the gate and find yourself in a sandy blowout,
with a dozen or so waist high ruins scattered around, and a pyramid or
a landed ha'tak off in the distance. moments after you come through the
gate, hundreds of jaffa start spilling over the ridgeline, and you just
start mowin em down. think forever in a day.
now about some specific issues,
-i'm very happy with the support so far, they fixed my order problem
right away.
-when i die, i seem to be stuck in someone elses shoes for a few
seconds.
-i really like being able to run the game in a window.
-the repetitive PA announcements are kind of annoying.
-i've only played for like 3 hours, but all the matches have been very
small, only a few people on each side. one time it said a match was
full, but there was only like 10 or 15 people in it. i was really
hoping the matches would allow at least 20 or 30 on each team. isn't
that why the rooms are so big? so it's not crowded?
-it would be cool if the login screen would remember my login info.
-i keep getting an error that says suspected macro operation detected.
that sounds like it thinks i'm cheating, but i have no idea why. i'm
using a nostromo speedpad n50.
-being near the active gate really slows down the game. i hope theres a
way to fix that, since i want to spend most of my time near it.
-i can't seem to get any custom controls working.
overall, i really like it and i'm sure i'll play it a lot. but with
some refinements, i'd probably play it until the end of time, but i'm
worried that i won't be able to. if people stop playing a lot sometime
down the road, and it becomes impossible to play except at peak times,
a single player mode would really be great. those scenarios i mentioned
above would be better in single player anyway. i like being able to
load up games i haven't played in years and not have to worry that no
one plays anymore. this game will just be forgotten without a single
player mode.
the only things that are really bugging me right now though, are that
macro error thing, and the small team sizes.
