Company :: History

In the summer of 2002, three game designers and fans of the Stargate movie and TV series had an idea. They wanted to create a massively multiplayer online game (MMO) based on the Stargate franchise called Stargate Worlds.

The first task was to convince Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), the owner of the Stargate license that now was the right time to make it happen. Armed with a preliminary design and a business plan, the passionate trio began the dialogue with MGM and soon they were on their way.

In 2005, the trio teamed up with Gary Whiting to found Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment (CME) and began building a team that would make Stargate Worlds a reality.  Joe Ybarra, a 25-year industry veteran, joined the team, followed soon afterwards by CEO Tim Jenson.

By 2007, this tiny company in the desert had grown to over 100 industry veterans working away to develop Stargate Worlds.  Angel investors quickly rallied around the game and expressed interest in diversification into other projects as well.  A number of other games were started between 2006 and 2008 and the company grew further, eventually adding FireSky as its publishing division.

In late 2008 and early 2009, a severe global economic recession severely hampered further fund-raising, and our company went through some very difficult financial struggles. All other projects were put on hold and development on Stargate Worlds slowed as several key developers moved on to more financially stable opportunities.

In late 2009, the development team refocused its efforts to create a 3rd person shooter entitled Stargate Resistance in order to take full advantage of the Stargate license and the existing development resources.  This new game is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2010.
